Our Mission —
To enhance the experience of people with disabilities and invisible illnesses by providing an adequate amount of wheelchairs and seating options in public and private places while minimizing wait times for these options, ensuring ramps are well maintained, and raising awareness about other ways to augment accessibility.
What is an Invisible Illness?
“Invisible illness” refers to any medical condition that is not outwardly visible to others, even to physicians. Invisible illnesses include a broad range of conditions, including:
- Arthritis
- Heart Disease
- Neuropathy
- Diabetes
- Dementia
- Psychiatric Illness
- Autoimmune Disorders
- Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS)
- Parkinson’s
- Fibromyalgia
- Ehlers-Danos
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Cancer
And if your invisible illness isn’t so invisible — like old age — you are more than welcome to use our Care Chairz. Sometimes life is just fatiguing and you need a place to sit and rest. We are here for you as well.
So What Exactly Do We Do?
We raise money for wheelchairs for places that do not have them or do not have enough of them. We identify hurdles that people with physical limitations and/or pain may experience (e.g., wait times for wheelchairs in public places, ramps that are bumpy and could be upgraded), and we work to remove as many of them as we can. We raise awareness of these silent issues through social media and stories. We raise people up — even when they’re seated. Or maybe, especially when they’re seated!
